A Dreambox should always be integrated in your home network.. Flashing, installing plugins,... is possible without network, but is quite laborious. And many users want to connect the dreambox with a NAS (streamen), or use plugins which require a internet connection.
If available, the wired network is prefered to integrate the dreambox. But often this is not possible, depending on the location of the dreambox. Alternatives for the wired network are Power Line Communication or WLAN.

Dreambox and WLAN
The DM 8000 HD PVR has an integrated WLAN Adapter, but many users are not satisfied with the performance. Other boxes (e.g. DM 7020 HD (v2)) are delivered with a WLAN USB Stick.
It's possible to buy a separate WLAN Stick, but the used chip must be supported. An overview of working sticks can be found here.
You must consider 2 limitations with WLAN:
- It's not possible to flash the dreambox with the Webinterface (in the STOP mode the WLAN is not active).
- the required WLAN drivers need to be installed.
So let's get back to the subject: integrate the dreambox with a WLAN Bridge in the network.
NETGAR WNCE2001 - WLAN Bridge
Als Beispiel nehmen wir den NETGEAR WNCE2001, weil es von Benutzern, sehr viele positive Erfahrungsberichte gibt. Das Preis- / Leistungsverhältnis und die Benutzerfreundlichkeit werden als Positiv bewertet. WLAN Bridges von anderen Herstellern funktionieren natürlich auch.
Funktion
Die Dreambox wird mit einem Netzwerkkabel am WNCE2001 angeschlossen. Für die Dreambox ist es so, als wäre sie über ein kabelgebundenes Netzwerk verbunden. Die WLAN-Bridge verbindet sich mit eurem WLAN Router im Heimnetz und errichtet sozusagen eine Brücke zwischen der Dreambox und dem Heimischen Netzwerk.
Vorteile von diesem System
- Einfach zu konfigurieren, es werden keine Treiber benötigt. Nur den WNCE2001 mit Standard Einstellungen konfigurieren und die Dreambox hat eine Netzwerkverbindung.
- Flashen über Webinterface ist möglich.
- Bessere WLAN Performance, im Vergleich zum integrierten WLAN der DM 8000 HD PVR.
- Die Spannungsversorgung vom WNCE2001 wird über den USB-Anschluss der Dreambox abgenommen. Beim Ein-/Ausschalten der Dreambox wird auch der WNCE2001 ein-/ausgeschaltet. Ein extra Adapter gehört auch zum Lieferumfang, falls die Dreambox keinen USB Anschluss hat (z.B. DM 500 HD).
- WNCE2001 ist klein und kann sehr einfach versteckt werden.
